I recently installed Boom, but quickly came to regret having done so.My problem is not with the sound coming through Boom. Like most of the reviewers mention here, I found the quality of sound to be excellent, and far ahead of any of sound applications. The 3D effects are amazing. My daily commute became more pleasant as I listened to my old favorites (I play my phone when I'm in my car).
All in all, my initial reaction was quite positive. That all changed, however, once I started to try web browsing. My browsers lost the ability to connect to any site (as a developer I run Safari, Chrome and Firefox). I could see that I had Internet connectivity - simple ping and traceroute tests returned succesasfully, and command line wgets were working with no problems. Unfortunately, my browsers could not connect and load at all.I tried a number of options, ranging from in-browser configuration changes to removal/reconstruction and replacement of plist files to full-blown browser reeplacements.
Nothing worked. I finally gave up and, with several days' frustration, removed Boom altogether.
My browsers were immediately able to connect using all the changes I had made ti try to make Boom connect.Needless to say, I've given up on Boom. It's a great idea with a fantastic 3D effect, but it rendered my machine unusable. To the folks at Global Delight Technologies: In your records you should see purchases from me for both you OSX and iOS versions. I would like a refund; please let me know how to get one. To the users of Boom: I sterongly recommend thatt you test your machine(s) thoroughly once this product is installed. All in all, it's been a dissapointing experience. I wish my results were better, as I truly enjoyed the sound quality from Boom. Doesn't work 1/5.
Overall I love this app and it has seriously improved my audio experience on my Mac. I've made separate EQ presets for every audio device I use with my computer, and the only thing I can think of that's missing is automatic EQ switching. Each time I connect a different pair of headphones or a different speaker, I have to manually change the EQ preset for that device. Just a small thing, but other than that, this is seriously worth the money if you care about great sound.
Went from being the best to not working at all 1/5. Very dissapointed with this app for $25.First of all, I can only get it to work with itunes. Second, you have to drag over any song you want to play with Boom from itunes into Boom, which is a pain. Basicaly, if you don't drag it into Boom, it does not work. That means that You Tube, Amazon Music, Pandora, or anything else I play off the internet does not play through Boom. Also, the app renders my lowes volume setting on my iMac useless. At the lowest setting (just up from 'mute') there is no volume at all, it's like skipping the first volume setting and going straight to '2'.
Which is too loud if I am working at my desk. The only way to get the volume lower is going in a lower the eq settings to get it quieter.Speaking of getting it quieter, it does that on its own. Gets quiter, then louder, then quiter, at random. The volume fluctuates making listening to any music, that I have dragged one song at a time from itunes, into the app unbareable to listen to.I would expect this crap from a free app, but not one that costs $25. Do not buy!!!. SEAL Team 5D 5/5. Based on earlier reviews, I gave this admittedly pricey app a try.
Very happy with it initially, until Ver.1.2 broke it and subsequent “fixes” failed to fix anything. Audio now lags significantly on video playback, particularly on VLC; the experience is like watching a badly dubbed movie. A quick look at discussion boards and review hubs reveals that many other users are having similar issues.
What had been one of my daily-use apps has been rendered wholly unusable.Equally frustrating, support is nonexistent. I’ve reached out via the developers’ website, via app store support channels, and via social media—with.no. replies. This is not an inexpensive app. The developers charge a premium price, but once they have your money you are apparently no longer of any concern.Do not purchase!. Great app then it broke and support is horrible 1/5.
It worked for me for a long time. It was a great app. Then it started causing my audio to drop off until I rebooted.Support was abysmal. They told me to install a beta version of the app that required a license they couldn’t provide because I bought through the App Store. The beta borked the app store version I had installed so I had no version of Boom 3D at all.Support spent weeks giving me the run around. I went on twitter to get help and that was equally as useless.Don’t waste your money on this version it’s totally broken and support is useless.
Flakey 1/5. Boom was great at first. Then after upgrading for some reason there was no proof that I had purchased so I purchased again. Second time around after a few months sound kept turning on and off, or fades in and out. Still to this day, May 2019 am having the same problem. Or worse, Boom just quits. I have to restart my laptop every 24 hours in order for the sound to be corrected.
Today I upgraded again with the promise that this has been corrected. We'll see, won't we?. UPDATE MADE IT WORSE - STOP UPDATING IT 1/5. I have a 2018 Mac Book Pro and I use this app.
It's amazing and running Boom 3d through a pair of custom in ears is mind-blowingly good. The problems.- The software will glitch randomly and crackle (even after re-installs, and computer restarts)- Changing from spotify, to a web browser to listen to itunes or watch a video, the app won't work sometimes.- The App for the phone is terrible with connecting to Spotify. It's a nightmare to use and the UI and speed is awful. We should be able to delete EQ presets. Had and tried a lot of different audio enhancing apps. None came even close in a studio setting. Granted, i havent no 2 million dollar setup, but, for sound separation it really is a nice tool to have.
Also it is just a all around great sound app. User interface is kids play, so easy to use.
Just 1 thing that i found annoying. When going in to advance EQ settings, not all the frequency sliders stay visible. How about an option to either switch on or off the additional sliders, just an idea. Except for that, love this app. If developers fix the annoyance issue will give a five star. Then it will beperfect!!!
A must have app for “SOUNDTROLLS” like myself!!!!!. Pretty Great!
I want to say up front that Boom 3D really brought my new Mac Mini x Samsung C34J79X monitor with built in speakers to life. I was getting to a point where I was considering external speakers even though reviews had given the Samsung 34' monitors onboard speakers some pretty good marks.
Boom 3D completely solved my issue. Much better audio quality, far more available volume and a solid EQ section. Had these been the only components of the Boom 3D I'd have given it 5 stars. The lose of a star is because the products claimed ability to create 3D, (included in the products name), Surround or even Ambience falls far short of my expectations. When initially turned on these effects cause a severe volume drop. When you increase the volume you find audio that feels empty in the middle. I'm an electric guitarist who uses a pair of amplifiers in a stereo set up and love to use reverb and echo so I know good from bad. A good reverb / ambience / echo effect adds to what's already there.
What's there remains solid and true while the effect adds addition qualities to what you hear. At this stage of Boom 3Ds development it sacrifices much of the good original sound when the 3D surround is turned on. It's like the mix knob on an effect pedal has been turned much to far to the affected sound side of the mix and very little of the original tonal quality and volume remain. The added surround 3D goal of this product will be wonderful when achieved. THey seem to have already found how to create the effected tone. The two issues that need to be addressed would preserving the original unaffected tonal quality and volume when the effect is turned on and then vastly reduce the amount of effect added to the original signal from 1 to 10 on the dial.
The current 2 would be a 10 to my ears.Preserve the original tone and volume when the surround 3D effect is turned on. When the effect is turned on and set on 1 it should sound exactly the the signal without the effect in play.
Then, as you go up on the dial the amount of added effect should be much smaller. When you get to 10 you should still have a mix of 60 to 70% original to 30 to 40% affected. One of the best macOS purchases I've made 5/5. Last update keeps crashingProcess: Boom 3D 730Path: /Applications/Boom 3D.app/Contents/MacOS/Boom 3DIdentifier: com.globaldelight.Boom3DMASVersion: 1.2 (101.2.030)App Item ID: App External ID: 829534487Code Type: X86-64 (Native)Parent Process:??? Updated - I use vanilla to control my menu bar, Boom 3d Installs in the not visible section so I could not find it.
Reinstalled and found and moved icon, works well.I said:Installed, worked, exited and tried to restart, could never get it to start again. Went to the support sight got this error trying to search: Can't create/write to file '/tmp/#sqlbe70.MYI' (Errcode: 13), opened a ticket and have not heard back yet. Really want it to work, just not working yet. Will update if they are able to fix. Pretty Darn Fantastic 4/5.
Idk what dumb people run this app, but it's been through the ringer. I've been using it since before it was on the app store and it's always been a headache. From 500-digit activation codes, to purchases not working on the next update of the app. It's a wonderful product, and I thought that the third developed version would be superior to the 2nd.
More features, less annoying features on boom 2. You don't have to hit save everytime you change the equalizer just a little bit, you can move multiple frequency points at the same time via lows, mids, and highs, and it LOOKS better. How the hell do they just keep getting worse and worse??? Surround Sound? From what I can tell these terms are misnomers.
All that I get from 3D/Surround Sound settings is the ability to turn off and on specific tones. Some higher end headphones will work with sound in games, for instance, to change the tones based off position (i.e. The object making noise will sound fuller while facing it, but deeper/flatter when behind you at the same distance). They emulate 5.1 sound by shifting tones. I have a pair of pricey headphones that offer this feature, and its very distinct.Based off the naming I thought this app would do the same, but it didn't.
It seems to be a stereo equilizer, nothing 3D about it. Have Used since Boom 1 – Still Love It 5/5. Been using this program sicne its first iteration, Boom 1, for years. I liked it so much that I bought Boom 2 and Boom 3D as well. The 3D effect is some wizardry. Apparently, we “hear” in 3D based on time-delays between sounds. As I understand it, this delays the different layers of the mix to achieve the same time delayw produced by a surround sound system.
Subtle, but really immersive.I’ve got a fancy DAC/Amp on my music playing, which I love but this 3D effect has me listening on my Laptop again. If Global Delight is reading this find some way to license this tech to DAC/Amp developers. You’ll make a fortune.NOTE: I’ve been using BOOM 3D since it launched. I’m only just leaving a review now because I’m procrastinating, lol.
I didn't know I needed this 5/5. The audio on my perfectly fine (recently purchased) MacBook Pro 15” has never been the same since installing (and uninstalling) Boom 3D. When I had it installed I wasn’t able to hear anything at all using my BT AirPods. I did some research and found that this is not an uncommon issue by any means.
So I uninstalled, and now the sound has returned, but it’s crackly and about 1/4 of the volume it should be. I’m not seeing any satisfactory answers from the Boom 3D developer or elsewhere as to how to.completely. remove the software from my Mac, so I may be looking at a complete OS reistallation. Which is unanticipated time I don’t have to spend on fixing my Mac when all I wanted was to try a silly audio enchancer.
